An article published in today's [20MAY10] edition of the VIRGINIAN-PILOT (Norfolk) advises former Norfolk & Western Railway steam locomotive #1134 has not only been cosmetically restored, but is now on display at a site in downtown Portsmouth, coupled to several railroad passenger cars. Number 1134, a 2-8-0, is a 1910 product of Baldwin [PHL], designated by N&W as Class M2.
It is possible some viewers of this Forum may travel to Tidewater, VA [including Williamsburg] during the upcoming months, and a downtown Portsmouth stop to view this equipment might be considered. The site is near the Norfolk-Portsmouth ferry landing, as well as HRT's 45 Route, which connects the two downtowns via the "Downtown Tunnel". But don't expect to ride LRV's of THE TIDE, as this all-Norfolk service is not expected to commence until May, 2011.
